2008 Affordable Housing Report
The 2008 Affordable Housing Report, created by a partnership between the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance and the Washington State Housing Finance Commission, gives an annual snapshot of the state of affordable housing in Washington.
Continued progress has been made in the development of homes for lower income homeowners and renters. In the most recent year for which data is available, the Washington State Housing Trust Fund funded 2,089 units of affordable housing. The programs administered and supported by the Washington State Housing Finance Commission financed 8,558 units of affordable housing. This means over 21,000 individuals and families in Washington State now have the opportunity for a better life.
In spite of this impressive rate of production, Washington State is still met with the challenge of ensuringthat every Washington family can afford to pay the rent or mortgage and still be able to afford basic necessities like food and medicine.
The 2008 Affordable Housing Report shows the progress we’ve made in Washington over the last year, and points to challenges that still face us as we work to ensure everyone in Washington has a place to call home.
