An Amazing Opportunity

Kevin Solarte, Statewide and Homelessness Outreach Coordinator

My time at the Housing Alliance is coming to an end this month. I am moving on to a new opportunity to work within the child welfare policy arena. Though I am excited at this new possibility, I am sad to be leaving the amazing team over here at the Housing Alliance. The Housing Alliance staff is one of the most dedicated, passionate, and intelligent staffs that I have had the pleasure to work with.

Equally as dedicated and amazing are all of the member organizations, partners, and individuals my position gets to work with. Over the last year with the Housing Alliance I have got to work on some pretty wonderful things with some pretty wonderful partners and members. Together we accomplished the following:

  • Turned out over 650 housing and homelessness advocates to rally for more access to affordable homes and an end to homelessness
  • Hosted the largest Conference on Ending Homelessness in our states history with just under 650 individuals attending two days of workshops and trainings.
  • Launched an exciting and still developing statewide campaign around Medicaid Expansion, helping to ensure we advocate for a strong connection between the Affordable Care Act and housing.

Along the way to accomplishing the above, I was able to learn from the stories of those experiencing homelessness, see the triumph of advocates who have stood up and demanded a better Washington, and learned from some of the state’s top experts on housing and homelessness.

Though I may be leaving for a great new opportunity, I am leaving behind an amazing opportunity for the next Homelessness and Statewide Outreach Coordinator. The possibilities are endless when working for the Housing Alliance, the knowledge gained is invaluable, and the opportunities offered are unbeatable.

As I write this I can’t help but get excited for the next person who takes on this great position; I can’t help but think about the amazing opportunity they are going to be offered by the Housing Alliance. If you are ready to work hard, to learn more than you can imagine, and to have a lot of fun with some great people, then I encourage you to apply for the Homelessness and Statewide Outreach Coordinator. You can contact Michele Thomas at michele(@)wliha(.)org if you have any questions about the position. The job description and official announcement should be out soon. Do not let this amazing opportunity pass you by!
