Save the Date AND Change the Date

Alouise Urness, Community and Member Organizer

If you're one of those stalwart advocates who already has Housing and Homelessness Advocacy on your calendar for 2014, thank you!

And I apologize for having to ask you to bring out your eraser – or virtual eraser. But, we are making a slight change.

Housing and Homelessness Advocacy Day will be on January 28, not January 22 as was previously announced.

Why would we do this to you, stalwart advocate? I hope you’ll agree it’s a pretty good reason; there's another very important date to add to your calendar: the annual Point-in-Time Count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals on January 23*.

The Housing Alliance stands with homelessness service providers across the state to ask that you make time to volunteer that Thursday night, January 23. This will help ensure that your county has the most thorough point-in-time homeless count. A long day in Olympia just one day before would limit many people’s options to participate in the count.

So please, help with your local count, then rest up over the weekend. And we’ll see you for Advocacy Day in Olympia bright and early the following Tuesday, January 28.

Watch for Advocacy Day registration at our homepage starting in November.

*Not all counties will conduct their point-in-time counts of homeless individuals on January 23, but many plan to. Check with your local homelessness service provider for details.
