Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) Nonprofit Contributions

Share:

Congress created the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit Program (LIHTC) in 1986 to encourage private investment in the development and rehabilitation of low-income housing. In 1987, Governor Booth Gardner designated the Washington State Housing Finance Commission as the federal low-income housing tax credit allocation agency for the state of Washington. Applicants who commit to contribute funds to a local Nonprofit Organization that provides housing, housing-related services, or nearby community/social services receive additional points on their tax credit application.

By designating all or a portion of your donation to the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance, you can both fulfill the application requirements and support advocacy for safe, healthy, affordable homes for all in thriving communities. Many organizations split their contribution between the Housing Alliance and their local housing consortium. We encourage you to consider this as a way to support advocacy that preserves LIHTC, the Housing Trust Fund, and other housing development resources.

During the 2015 legislative session, the Housing Alliance’s statewide movement of advocates, member organizations, and lawmakers helped secure $75 million for the Housing Trust Fund and the passage of several bills that will create new funding sources for housing, services, and mental health facilities.

We are grateful to the below organizations who since 2010 have contributed their LIHTC donations to the Housing Alliance to create more affordable housing and advance our efforts to end homelessness.
