The Washington Low Income Housing Alliance is pleased to officially release our 2013 State Legislative Agenda and Federal Legislative Priorities. We are committed to the belief that all Washington residents should have an opportunity to a safe, healthy, affordable home in thriving communities. And as such, we feel our state legislative items reflect this commitment.

Our 2013 State Legislative Agenda consists of lead and support items. Lead Items are legislation and policy that the Housing Alliance directly advocates for. Our support items are ones that our members lead on and that we also support. The Washington Low Income Housing Alliance Public Policy Committee (PPC) determines our state legislative lead agenda items through an extensive decision-making process. The PPC is comprised of individual Housing Alliance

members from across the state who together have a depth of housing and policy experience representing the spectrum of affordable housing and homelessness stakeholders.
You can see the current members of the PPC here.

Our 2013 Federal Legislative Priorities consist of affordable housing and homelessness legislation working its way through the national legislature. While our advocacy focus is statewide, we work to educate and empower our members to also advocate in the other Washington. In choosing these national policy priorities, we consider what policies will have the greatest impact in Washington and also where our

own advocacy will have the most impact. We look to our national partners, including the D.C.-based National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), of which we are a member.

This year, we've assigned Twitter #hashtags to each of our state legislative items and federal priorities. That way our advocates can find out the latest developments regarding each item. And if you have a Twitter account, you too can let us know about the advocacy work you are involved in.
More about Twitter hashtags here.

Last year, we were very successful in our state advocacy. This year, with potential gridlock in the Senate and another large budget deficit, we'll need housing and homelessness advocates on the phones, in the streets, and in the capitol offices now more than ever. Check back to the Housing Alliance’s blog and our 2013 State Legislative Agenda and Federal Legislative Priority Issues pages regularly for the latest updates.
